What kinds of teaching and learning foster development of the skills, attributes and knowledge most conducive to changemaking? Following a brief introduction to social innovation in higher education, participants in this session will be given hands-on experience of some key modes of thinking and working that support social innovation. Creative, collaborative activities will explore empathy and systems/design thinking.

Join us to explore how we achieve health for all. We are shifting the focus from fighting disease to creating and spreading health, and addressing how to increase health at the university, in our communities and the world. This workshop will explore a variety of career stories in social innovation and provide you with resources to use in your search for meaningful work. We’ll present examples of social change work within the often ambiguous social economy. Participants will support one another in developing career exploration strategies to use in their pursuit of a career in social innovation.

Standards are starting to emerge in health, finance and policy circles but there is no current standard on measuring the impact of social innovations and for purpose organizations. In this session we will explore the emerging approaches and methodologies.

Social enterprises come in different forms and so do their funding. This session will explore the different types of early-stage funding available for budding social entrepreneurs and answer questions such as how to pitch for funding, and how to blend funding sources across grants and investments? We will also speak to the landscape of impact funding in Canada.
